Extent of Damage A Pothole Can Cause

Following our earlier article about reporting potholes using Fix My Street, we received the following email from VB reader, Jill Dennis.

As you can see from the photos below that Jill has sent us, the damage to her tyre after hitting a pothole on an Island road is pretty scary.

She tells us that although the picture of the pothole by the Donkey Sanctuary shows it just after it was filled, not surprisingly given the sub-zero weather we experienced a couple of weeks ago, it is deteriorating again.

If you don’t recognise it, the pothole is on the section of road from Whitely Bank to Wroxall.

She tells us that driving over the pothole destroyed both the front and rear nearside wheels and tyres on her car. A pretty expensive and dangerous incident.

This took place on 29th December, before the snow and Jill tells us that she has informed the county council and the Police as she was afraid that it could have killed a motorcyclist if one had hit it.
