Music Service Working Group Find Council’s Behaviour Unacceptable

This afternoon sees members of the Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel meet at County Hall to discuss the future of the Isle of Wight Music Service.

Pen to paper:Ahead of the meeting today, VB has received a copy of letter sent to the panel by the IW Music Service Working Group.

The working group was set up when the threat to the future of the Music Service first arose back in March.

Council not provided any facts or figures
In their lengthy letter to the panel (embedded below for your convenience) they point out that, “IW Council had not engaged the IW Music Service Working Group or provided the group with the accurate facts and figures in order for us to understand the true picture of what is happening so that we can help to provide and test out proposed and new potential solutions.”

They go on to say that they’ve been kept in the dark about the exact nature of what is being discussed at the Scrutiny Panel, the intention of what is to go to Cabinet on 14th August, and the scope and content of the Consultation.

A number of questions posed
As well as pointing out the dangers involved with the reorganisation of the Music Service, the threat to the future of music education on the Island for young people and examples of how it hasn’t worked elsewhere, the Group pose a number of questions to the council’s Children and Young People Scrutiny Panel.

The meeting takes place at 5pm today. The public are welcome to attend.
