Self-service kiosks go into remaining council libraries

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

The Isle of Wight Council will shortly install self-service kiosks in the remaining four of its six libraries.

The easy to use equipment allows library users to check books, CDs or DVDs in and out and pay hire charges or fines using debit cards or cash including notes, similar to self-service machines in supermarkets.

Free up library staff
The machines also free up library staff to give more time to customers. Staff will also be on hand to offer assistance if needed. Self-service kiosks have been running at Newport and Ryde libraries since October last year and have been very successful.

Kiosks will be installed in Cowes, Freshwater, Sandown and Ventnor libraries over the next month. Each library will be closed for a short period while the installation is completed. This will also allow staff to be fully trained to use the machines, and other minor maintenance to be carried out at each library.

Closure dates
The closure dates will be as follows:

Sandown Library – closes Monday 12 November, re-opens Saturday 17 November.

Ventnor Library – closes Monday 19 November, re-opens Saturday 24 November.

Freshwater Library – closes Monday 26 November, re-opens Saturday 1 December.

Cowes Library – closes Monday 3 December, re-opens Saturday 8 December.
