Gurit confirms Isle of Wight redundancies

Our thoughts are with those facing redundancy at Gurit UK, who say a decline in the Wind Energy market is the cause of job losses.

Job losses are hard to swallow at any time of the year, but perhaps more so just before Christmas.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by redundancies confirmed by Gurit UK this morning.

The company, a world-leading composite manufacturer, say the job losses are “due to the decline in the Wind Energy market”.

Gurit refused to confirm how many people will be made redundant or how many people they currently employ on the Isle of Wight.

It comes just a week after the news that job losses are also expected at Liz Earle as they enter a consultation period.

I always though it would happen here one day even though it’s a while after Vestas. It shows that workers should always be united and organise, it’s never too late.

Late last month Gurit was being “honoured” by the IOW Chamber of Commerce with an “Employee Development Business Award” at an awards ceremony at Cowes Yacht Haven….Gurit must of known that they were going to be making people redundant, when they took this award, perhaps they should now be dis-honoured and have this award retracted by the IOW Chamber of Commerce.

Just to say that the award was given to Gurit Automotive which isn’t the part of the company that is struggling, infact it is thriving. The Wind energy sector of the company is the section that is having problems and has no reflection on what happened at Vestas as they don’t supply vestas. This is as a result of global business decline. Most of the product that has dried up was going to Brazil.
