Changes to taxi fares approved by committee

Following our taxi fare report at the end of last month, this just in from the council, in their own words. Ed

Members of the Isle of Wight Council’s regulatory committee have voted to accept a small number of changes to taxi fares, with one slight increase and two reductions.

Only three changes to the existing table of fares are proposed. These are:

* Tariff 1 cost per quarter mile has been increased from 40p to 45p

* The waiting amount permitted for Tariff 2 reduced from 60p to 40p per minute

* The waiting amount permitted for Tariff 4 reduced from £1 to 80p per minute

If the proposed changes come in from February, according to latest statistics the cost of a two mile taxi journey under tariff 1 on the Isle of Wight is £5.70 compared to an average in the south of £5.98. A five mile journey on the Isle of Wight would cost £11.10 with the average in the south being £11.80.
