Keep your eyes peeled for birds covered in sticky substance

Readers may have heard on the national news today that around 100 birds covered in a sticky substance have been found washed up along the coast in Weymouth. It’s thought the substance might be palm oil and those birds who survived are being cared for by the RSPCA.

According to a report from IW Radio this morning, the RSPCA have confirmed a bird with similar conditions, “covered in a mysterious sticky substance”, was washed up on an Isle of Wight beach earlier in the week.

If you are walking on any beaches today or over the weekend and spot any injured birds, do let the RSPCA know.
