Ten hour static cycle for Red Nose Day

Thanks to Jane for details of this charity fundraiser taking place at Grove House surgery in Ventnor next month. Ed

On Red Nose Day, Friday 15th March, Mike Jukes the Practice Manager at Grove House Surgery, Ventnor plans to ride his exercise bike for ten hours to raise money for Comic Relief. His target is to ride the equivalent of 150 miles or approximately twice around the Isle of Wight!

mike-jukes-grove-house-surgeryMike is undertaking this challenge at Grove House Surgery by kind permission of the Partners, Dr Stephen Doggett and Dr Sunitha Jinka. He will commence the event at 7.50am and ride in five two hour sessions, with only a ten minute break between each, aiming to finish at 6.30pm.

‘Let’s Get Moving’
In 2010 Mike decided that, at the age of 62, it was not too late to lose weight and get fitter, so he enrolled on the NHS ‘Let’s Get Moving’ programme. It was recommended that he should set personal goals to make his training more interesting so, last year Mike completed the Walk the Wight raising £600 for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

This year he felt it was appropriate to undertake an event for Comic Relief Red Nose Day in recognition of their 25th anniversary. For this challenge, Mike has received invaluable professional support to improve his training and diet from Stuart Symonds, a personal trainer and a Practice Nurse at Grove House Surgery.

To help Mike raise as much as possible for Comic Relief’s worthy projects in the UK and Africa, you can sponsor him by calling at the surgery, or online.
