Roadworks signs

Expect four weeks of traffic diversions in Newport

From 7pm tomorrow evening a one-way restriction is going to be in place on major routes in and out of Newport.

The restriction will affect traffic on Staplers Road, Fairlee Road, Halberry Lane and Cross Lane as gas main and service replacement works take place.

The restrictions are going to be in place for four weeks.

Council roadworks notice
Temporary one way restrictions will now be in operation from 7pm on Thursday 28 February until approx 8pm on Wednesday 27 March 2013 for major gas main and service replacement works in the lower section of Staplers Road and A3054 Fairlee Road (from Staplers Road to Fairlee Link Road) by Southern Gas Networks.

Unfortunately the start date for implementing the one way restrictions has been delayed due to engineering difficulties currently being experienced with replacing the gas main in Staplers Road near to the junction with School Lane.

The one way restrictions are being implemented in an effort to minimise traffic congestion whilst the works take place.

Restrictions
In Staplers Road traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from Cross Lane to A3054 Fairlee Road, towards Newport.

In A3054 Fairlee Road traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from Staplers Road Halberry Lane, out of Newport.

In Halberry Lane / Cross Lane traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from A3054 Fairlee Road to Staplers Road.

Traffic diversions will be signposted.

These works form part of a major gas main and service replacement project in Staplers Road, from Blacklands Lane to Fairlee Road. Completion of the project is the end of March 2013.
