Letter: Three burning questions

We always welcome a Letter to the Editor to share with readers. If you have something you’d like to share, get in touch. This letter from Tanja Rebel from the East Cowes. Ed

It is heartening to know that the Isle of Wight Council is spending 7 million pounds on upgrading the much loved Grade II Listed Guildhall in Newport, creating a new County Records Office as well as an improved museum.

Wouldn’t it be great if they at the same time could reinstate the Tourist Information Centre, which was located in such a central place and is missed by so many? After all, I would deem it important to link our heritage to the here and now.

The equally cherished former Frank James Hospital
Whilst on this topic, as there seems to be money available to spend on our Heritage, wouldn’t it be lovely too if some of it was spent on the equally cherished former former Frank James Hospital in East-Cowes? This is also a Grade II listed building and has so much potential to attract visitor interest, bearing in mind its proximity to Osborne House where we now have a new Tourism Hub.

The current owners do not seem to be taking their responsibility seriously enough, but competent people with a vision have come forward who want to make this building flourish again. Consequently, a back-to-back purchase would seem to be the way forward.

What are we waiting for?
