Sandown Bay Academy pupils walk 15, 30 and 50 miles for charity

Our hats go off to each and every one of the 186 pupils from Sandown Bay Academy who last week took part in a choice of either 15, 30 or 50 mile walks.

The annual event which has been running over 20 years was organised by Lee Boswell, Head of Yellow House to raise money for Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Children with Cancer.

The school told OnTheWightthat they expect thousands of pounds to be raised.

Staggered starts
Ten students completed the 50 mile walk which started at 11.30pm on Thursday night. At 7am on Friday morning they were joined by 111 students who started the 30 mile walk at Freshwater Bay.

At 2pm on Friday a further 65 students met them at Carisbrooke to do a 15 mile walk.

They all finished between 8.30-9.30pm at Bembridge Lifeboat Station.

National School Sports Week
The vent was part of National School Sports Week which saw hundreds of students took part in sporting activities every day including:

Zumba, Ju-Jitzu, Cricket, Climbing, Fencing, Sports Day and a triathlon on Thursday in memory of Con Sullivan a past student who recently died whilst cycling in Singapore.

His mum works here at Sandown Bay Academy and had a fantastic day watching the triathlon and inspiring the students with memories of Con taking part in triathlons and Iron Man events.

Yellow House won Sports Day on Wednesday with 1187 points with Green House coming second with 1167 points.
