The Great Taste Awards, arranged by the Guild of Fine Food and sometimes described as the ‘Oscars of the Food World’, awarded top marks to Isle of Wight produce this year.
A total of 405 judges tasted approximately 10,000 products from all across the UK between May and July of this year, and gave many products sourced and made in the Isle of Wight the coveted award stars.
Wild about Wight
An OnTheWight favourite, Wild Island, received two awards; their Blackberry Balsamic Dressing and Dip scored two stars, and their Spiced Fig Balsamic Dressing and Dip scored one.
The Island Bakers also did extremely well in the competition. Four of their products were given a star, and therefore they can now have the highly respected Great Taste sticker placed on their packaging. The winning products were; their Sunflower Polenta and Rosemary Sourdough; their Pumpernickel; their Classic Brownie and their Lumberjack Cake.
Wight Kitchen was another front-runner, winning awards for their seafood crepes, slow cooked Lamb with Moroccan spices and smoked Mackerel and horseradish pate and Catch in Freshwater netted an award for their Proper Posh Crab Bisque.
Minghella scooped three new Great Taste Awards for their Spanish Fiesta (which was a great success and awarded an incredible three stars), Heritage Vanilla Bean and Heritage Chocolate ice creams. Minghella have previously done very well in the Great Taste awards, and with the addition of 2013’s awards, they can now add their total to 77.
Gioia Minghella, the company’s managing director, said:
“Our 77 Great Taste Awards mean so much to me, because they are of course a great tribute to my father, who founded our company in 1950 and whose original recipe for ice cream we still use today.”
All of these products have been recognised as high-quality foods, and have been signified with a reliable seal of approval from the expert judges.
Congratulations to you all!
