Ryde Harbour: Wider public consultation on the cards

As readers will remember, earlier in the year, former Cabinet member George Brown made a delegated decision to sell Ryde Harbour on the open market.

The sale of the council asset was put on hold after the Island Independents took control of the council following the May local elections.

Future of Harbour discussed at meeting
Yesterday (Wednesday 14th August) a meeting chaired by Ryde Town council was held with representatives from local organisations to discuss the future of Ryde Harbour.

Cllr Tim Wakeley, who chaired the meeting, told OnTheWight,

“The purpose of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for the IW Council to consult with local organisations who would be most affected by any changes to the way the Harbour is operated or developed in the future.”

Public consultation
It was unanimously agreed at the meeting that a much wider public consultation would need to take place as matters develop and a report from the meeting would be presented to the next meeting of the Ryde Town Council on 2nd September.

Readers may remember that OnTheWight ran an open letter by Cllr Tim Wakeley to George Brown earlier in the year, when he challenged the decision made by the former Cabinet member to sell the asset on the open market.
