Landlord being blamed for HMV Isle of Wight closure

Earlier in the year staff at HMV were told that they’d be losing their jobs after HMV went into administration.

By a stroke of luck, Canadian company, Hilco, stepped in to save many of the HMV stores across the UK, one of which was the Isle of Wight.

staff at HMV Isle of Wight have sadly now been dealt another blow after it was announced the store is to close later this month.

It’s a huge shame for all the staff who will now be forced to look for new jobs.

A sign in the window of the Newport High Street branch (tweeted by Simon Johnston at the weekend) reads,

We regret to inform you that the HMV Isle of Wight store will cease trading in October 2013.

This is no reflection upon the dedication and effort of the store team and our fantastic loyal customers, but is due to the fact that despite our best endeavours, the landlord will not commit to HMV as a tenant and would rather see a convenience store on the high street on the Isle of Wight.

The store will continue to operate as normal up until the closure date, which will be communicated in due course. Many thanks to all our customers over the years.
