Thanks to Suzanne and Alan for this news from Quay Arts. Ed

This year’s Open Exhibition at Quay Arts has been won by a young Islander, Holly Cade and her ‘Duet’ partner Liz Sterry.

‘Duet’ mounted in the West Gallery, features thirteen entries from the Open Competition and runs until Saturday 15th February 2014.

As part of the remit of the competition entries had to be from duos who had collaborated on their chosen theme.

Judging was undertaken by Georgia Newman, Visual Arts Project Manager at Quay Arts, Katayoun Dowlatshahi from Southsea, winner of the 2010 Quay Arts Open and Daniel Crow from Southampton, a space arts Director.

All three judges spent a lot of time looking at all the entries before spending two hours behind closed doors on launch day before coming to their decision.

The winning team
For the winning entry Holly, who lives in Newport and was educated at Cowes High School and the Isle of Wight College took five of her original photographs as a starting point.

Then Holly contacted Liz, who lives in Essex, via social networking. To date the two artists have never met in person. Liz’s collaboration consisted of adding her original artwork to the photographs through the medium of paint in the main and in various shades of blue.

Quay Arts have awarded the winning duo an exhibition in the Rope Stop Gallery in the Autumn/Winter of 2014.

Most works in the exhibition are for sale and are available to purchase through the Own Art scheme.
