How the strong winds are affecting cross-Solent travel (updated)

Readers won’t need to be told that it’s pretty windy out there today. The Met Office issued a warning at the end of last week, letting us know that during today (Monday) and tomorrow we are likely to experience very strong winds and heavy rain.

We thought we’d give you an update on cross-Solent travel for those needing to get across the water.

Wightlink
Due to the high winds the Lymington – Yarmouth car ferry service has been temporarily suspended.

Foot passengers who intended to travel on our Lymington – Yarmouth route and who still wish to travel will be transported by shuttle busses laid on by Wightlink leaving Lymington and Yarmouth from 1200. This journey will take approximately 3hrs via our Portsmouth – Fishbourne route.

14.52: Due to the high winds, we are sorry but the Portsmouth Harbour – Ryde Catamaran service has been temporarily suspended.

Foot passengers who intended to travel on our Portsmouth Harbour – Ryde route and who still wish to travel are being transported by shuttle busses running to and from our Portsmouth – Fishbourne car ferry service.

15.57: Now running shuttle service on Fishbourne car ferry route with priority given to those with the earliest bookings.

18.50: We are pleased to advise that the Portsmouth Harbour – Ryde Catamaran service will resume on a trip-by-trip basis from 19:15

Wightlink is running extra sailings this afternoon (Monday 23 December) on car ferries between Portsmouth and Fishbourne to help customers travelling before Christmas.

They will be:
From Gunwharf 13:30, 15:30; 17:30
From Fishbourne 14:30, 16:30; 18:30

Red Funnel
Red Jet Hi-Speed service is operating normally but due to the weather conditions customers may experience disruption. The Passenger Vehicle Ferry service is operating normally.

12.42: Weather is deteriorating and there is currently a 7 min delay on the RJ. We are monitoring this closely and will update if anything changes

13.02: Our RJ service is currently suspended until further notice due to the weather conditions the vehicle ferry is currently unaffected.

13.37: Red Funnel vehicle ferry is currently delayed by 15mins due to weather conditions.

Hovertravel
Despite the windy weather, the Hovertravel services remains running, but they are constantly monitoring the situation. Another update is due at 11am.
