Puckaster after the fire :

Islanders pull together for Puckaster fire victims

Readers will remember the horrendous fire that struck Puckaster Close earlier this month.

The beautiful old mansion house, which had been converted into flats, was totally destroyed by the fire – which at one point had more than 20 firefighters battling to keep it under control – and left those who lived there, including the 84 year old owner, homeless and without anything except the clothes on their backs.

Community pulling together
Friends and the local community have rallied around, a Facebook group – Puckaster Friends – was set up by Tarananda Shiva to coordinate donations and offers of help, a charity gig is being organised (more to follow later) and an online auction has been announced, aiming to raise funds to help the victims of the fire.

Donations needed
The online auction will run from 5th April 2014 6.30pm until 12th April 2014 at 6.30pm and is being run by Tracey Smith.

For the auction to be successful, it needs Islanders to donate lots than can be auctioned off to help raise funds for those who have lost everything.

If you have something you can donate to the auction, a physical item or perhaps services, please pop over to the Facebook event page and add your details there.

We’ll send out a reminder before the auction kicks off on 5th April.
