St Mary’s ‘Struggling to contain’ Norovirus outbreak says Chief (Video)

The Norovirus outbreak at St Mary’s hospital has stepped up a notch, as Karen Baker, the Chief Executive of Isle of WIght NHS Trust releases a video update and appeal (below).

The Hospital first alerted people to a new outbreak of Norovirus ten days ago, with this update being the four official update since then.

Current impact
In the video Karen Baker speaks about the severity of Norovirus outbreak, saying that 42 of the hospital’s patients are currently affected.

For the sake of patient safety, the hospital has cancelled elective surgery (pre-scheduled) and is looking at cancelling patients coming in for cancer surgery.

Use soap and water – not just gels
The CEO asks, “We would ask you to maintain really strict hand hygiene – use soap and water – don’t just use the hand gels.”

She stressed, “Please try and stay away from the hospital whenever you can.”
