Tina Boyd:

Hospice nurse Tina Boyd recognised for ‘going the extra mile’

Thanks to Erika for sharing this latest news from the Hospice, Ed

Staff nurse Tina Boyd was singled out for the award by colleagues who have observed her work as lead nurse at the Hospice’s John Cheverton Centre (JCC). They chose her for the accolade after also receiving very favourable feedback from patients.

One of those, Pam Hughes, who attends day services in the JCC said:

“Tina is brilliant. She’s always got time for every single patient – she’s very caring.”

Tina received her award during a gathering at which hospice management and clinical staff came together to review progress of their five-year nursing strategy which covers many aspects of hospice activity including sustaining innovation and workforce development, enhancing professionalism and accountability and the provision of a safe, calm and clean care environment.

Tina said:

“Patients appreciate the care that we offer at the JCC but as well as providing the very best service here, we also aim to be part of the support provided to enable patients to remain independently in their own homes and continuing to live as actively as they can.”

Trustee Ginnie Gledhill praised the contribution of Tina and her colleagues and added that progress in implementing the nursing strategy had also been pleasing.

She said:

“I was impressed by the progress the team is making on the nursing strategy. The cleverness of a strategy is to define the overall objectives and then identify practical steps towards achieving them. Staff are all working towards this in a very focused and positive way. Well done to all the team.”

Mrs Jo Blackburn, Interim Chief Executive of the Hospice, said:

“It is very encouraging that an overarching strategy is found to be effective and also that those responsible for delivering it to patients are doing so in a highly professional and compassionate manner.”

Liz Arnold, Director of Patient Services, expressed her appreciation for the contribution of all the nurses involved in developing the strategy.

“The aim has been to support and empower nurses to lead change locally and motivate their teams to improve the experience and outcomes of people using our services. It is a pleasure and privilege to be part of the team.”
