Navitus Bay gives Yarmouth further hope of offshore windfarm work

The company that wants to place a vast wind farm of between 121 and 194 turbines in the sea off the Isle of Wight, Navitus Bay, have signaled further interest in a shortlist of three locations around the south coast, where craft servicing the off-shore wind turbines might rest.

One of the three is Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight – the other two are Poole and Portland.

Three ports
By all three ports signing the ‘Memoranda of Understanding’ (MOU), the ‘next stage’ includes studies carried out on Navitus Bay’s behalf to evaluate which of the areas might be the most appropriate.

On the side of the port, they will have to commit to “keep suitable areas of the sites available for Navitus Bay to use from 2017 onwards.”

For the ports, of course the potential for income is appealing. For the residents in the area, the hope of jobs is the carrot.
