Wind turbine against cloud sky by pkorsmok

Parkhurst wind turbine applicant responds to MP’s release

Further to the press release issued by Conservative Isle of Wight MP, Andrew Turner, earlier in the week on the subject of proposed wind turbines at Parkhurst Prison, John Mills, Head of Communications and Marketing at Partnerships for Renewables Development Company Limited, has been in touch.

He told OnTheWight,

“Firstly, in clarification, the two-turbine development proposal at Camp Hill is not in Parkhurst Forest, it’s in a field owned by the Ministry of Justice between the forest and Camp Hill prison. Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) is bringing forward wind energy schemes on several ministry of justice sites, of which Camp Hill is one.

“The Ministry has satisfied itself that there will be no adverse impact from the scheme on any future possible development at Camp Hill Prison and has granted PfR an option to take a lease. The first of PfR’s projects on the MoJ estate is built and operating at HMP Standford Hill in Kent.”

He went on to say,

“PfR went through a very vigorous environmental assessment of the site at Camp Hill before the planning application was submitted and discussions are continuing with several consultees. We hope the planning application will be determined by Isle of Wight Council soon.”

56% of respondents in favour
Mr Mills finished by saying,

“We of course accept that there are a range of views on our proposal, but in consultations throughout the life of the Camp Hill project we have received a greater number of expressions of support than of opposition from members of the local community – including at the public exhibitions we held before the application was submitted and in a telephone poll conducted on our behalf late last year by a professional polling organisation, which found that amongst people who were already aware of the project, 56% were in favour of the scheme, with 24% opposed and 20% expressing no opinion.”
