Ryde’s Men’s Junior Senior Four – of Ollie Gove, Adam Edwards, Stephen Johnson and James Cleary, with Sam Brading coxing, racing at this status for the first time – since gaining promotion at the end of the 2013 season, produced a spectacular result – not only winning their own status – but also producing the fastest time of the day to take the Head Pennant, beating all the Men’s Senior Crews competing – all be it by just one second over the pre-race favourites from BTC.

Young Men’s Novice Fours
Ryde also had three young Men’s Novice Fours crews competing – all aged between 15 and 17. There was disappointment for the Novice A of James Smith, Callum Lockhart, Will Ford and Issac Brading-Cornish with Mick Jenner coxing who produced a good performance which would have put them near the top of the field of Novice Crews – only to discover on finishing that, along with a number of other crews they had steered the wrong side of a marker post leading to their disqualification.

The young Men’s Novice “B” crew of Jacob Redstone, Joel Smith, Dom Douglas and Joe Groves – with Austin Smith coxing – who are actually a Boys J15 Crew and were competing in the men’s event for the first raced well to finish in 10th place in a very competitive field. This crew have been selected to represent the Wessex Region in the Boys J15 Coxed Four at the Junior Inter-regional competition at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham next weekend.

Novice “C” Crew
The Club’s Novice “C” Crew of Tom Kearney, Ben Toms, Steven Soal and Matt Jeacock with Andy Hicks coxing – also competing in their first event at this level – and with Ben and Tom making their debuts for the Club in a Coastal boat produced a spirited and encouraging performance that provided them with valuable experience.
