If you are registered on the Electoral Roll, you should have received your Poll Card to vote at the European election this Thursday (22nd May).
Here at OnTheWight we’ve received canvassing literature from just four parties, UKIP, Labour, Liberal Democrats and Conservatives.
There is just one candidate from the Isle of Wight standing in the European Elections, Andy Matthews, from the Socialist Party of Great Britain.
How proportional representation works
There are ten seats up for grabs and the voting works on proportional representation.
The order of who would be the first in a party to take a seat is listed in the table below.
This helpful video below explains how the d’Hondt system of proportional representation works. Initially it sounds complex, but is pretty easy to follow once they start putting some numbers against it.

Voting takes place between 7am and 10pm and the results will be revealed following the Count which takes place on Sunday 25th May.
If you can’t find your Poll Card, don’t worry, you can still vote. Just turn up and take something proving your identity.
