Unesco say Navitus Bay could threaten Heritage status of Jurassic Coast

It’s been reported that Unesco have written to the government about the Navitus Bay wind farm project, planned off the coast of Dorset, Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

The government are currently examining the 18,000 page application, which is expected to take at least six months.

The letter from Unesco states,

“Any potential impacts on this natural property (the Jurassic Coast) are in contradiction to the overarching principle of the World Heritage Convention.

“The property will change from being located in a natural setting largely free from human-made structures to one dominated by human-made structures.”

Navitus Bay say the comments made by Unesco contradict those of an independent impact assessment already carried out.

The BBC weren’t the only ones to cover the news. In the Daily Mail report, they claimed the ‘Isle of Wight would be dwarfed’ by the wind farm.
