Friday 20th June 2014 saw the latest Tourist Information Point launch in East Cowes. Cllr Shirley Smart, Member for Tourism and the Economy and Mike Lloyd, Mayor of East Cowes officially opened the information point at Valu 4 U, Castle Street.

Created in a popular retail premise owned and operated by Roger and Angela Booth, visitors will now be able to find a wealth of information about the historic town and the surrounding area and have access to free and friendly advice and information to help them make the most of their visit to East Cowes and the Isle of Wight.

Guidance on attractions, entertainment, events and eating out
With clear signage attracting travellers disembarking from both the Chain Ferry and the Red Funnel vehicle ferry, staff at the East Cowes Tourist Information Point will offer guidance on attractions, entertainment, events and eating out. Visitors and locals alike will be able to pick-up promotional material, including maps, guides and gifts.

This new visitor centre is the latest in a series of investments made by Visit Isle of Wight, thanks to financial support from the Isle of Wight Council, aimed at improving visitor information across the Island. Since July 2013, new tourist information points have opened in Shanklin, Ryde, Brighstone, Ventnor, Brading, Godshill, Sandown, Newport and Yarmouth. More will be opening this summer including Freshwater Bay and Havenstreet.

Councillor Shirley Smart, said:

“Tourism is extremely important to the Island’s economy and the council is working hard to assist partners in promoting the Island as a top visitor destination. I am delighted to see yet another Tourist Information Point opening its doors in time for the busy summer season and we are very grateful to Roger and Angela for agreeing to operate it from within their shop, which is just a short stroll from the East Cowes ferry terminals.

“Further enhancements and improvements to the existing service are planned this summer, including the installation of a TV screen network to promote attractions and activities that can be enjoyed without using a car. These digital screen shows are being funded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, government funding secured by the Isle of Wight Council.”
