Primary school respond to outcome of Ofsted visit

This in from Newport Primary School, in their own words. Ed

Newport Primary School has now received its third monitoring visit by one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors and has been judged as making reasonable progress in its journey to the removal of special measures.

The Reverend Kevin Arkell, Chair of Governors, commented:

“The Governing Body is pleased to note the Inspector’s view that the school is making reasonable progress towards the removal of special measures, this being the highest judgement available.”

Pupil’s progress is improving
Her Majesty’s Inspector noted that the pupil’s progress is improving in Reading, Writing and Maths in all year groups, including those with special educational needs and those pupils supported by pupil premium funding.

Many pupils now show a greater ability to concentrate on their work and try hard to succeed. The Inspector noted that the improving teaching is leading to greater progress and that good elements of teaching are consistently evident in all years.

Clear guidance from Extended Leadership Team
The Extended Leadership Team is well established and is having a powerful impact on the school’s improvement because of the clear guidance it provides.

Improvements in marking were noted with the children valuing and responding conscientiously to their teachers’ thoughtful comments.

Pupils enjoy coming to school and behave increasingly well with incidents of disruptive behaviour in class extremely rare. Parents and careers were overwhelmingly positive about the school, its leaders and staff and felt concerns were taken seriously and resolved.

Speaking about the visit, Jerry Seaward, Acting Headteacher, stated:

“We are pleased that the hard work of the staff and children has been noted and that we are making progress in many areas.

“However, we recognise there is still much to do as we continue our drive for the sustained improvements in Teaching and Learning which will bring the school out of special measures and ensure the best possible outcomes for our children”

Pat Goodhead, Principal of Christ the King College and the Executive Headteacher of Newport Primary School, added:

“The consistent drive, dedication and determination shown by everyone involved with Newport Primary is having a real impact on the children’s learning.

“I have no doubt that the school will go from strength to strength.”
