The chairman of the Isle of Wight Council is leading a service of reflection as part of commemorations to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The service, which will reflect on the life on the Island during the war, takes place at the Minster Church of Sts Thomas in Newport from 11am on Sunday 3 August.

Anyone is welcome to attend the service.

Councillor Ian Ward is the council chairman. He said:

“Being a former military officer myself, it is very important we hold public events such as the service of reflection.

“It gives people the chance remember loved ones and to honour those who served and gave their lives for their country. I encourage residents to come along and be part of the service.”
