Cycling team take on the VC Venta Summer Road Race

Thanks to Jack for this latest report from the Wightlink-LCM Systems Cycle Race Team. Ed

The course was rolling with a decent climb to finish off every lap, which had to be taken on 6 times.

Ian HaydenThe race rolled out from HQ and was neutralised until the top of the climb and the flag was dropped. It started off very fast hitting 70kmh right from the off with all 3 team members holding good positions in the peloton.

Continuing his quest to be named the least lucky person in the team, Baker had a mechanical half way into the first lap. After getting his dropped chain back on and his bike working again, it was already clear that Baker’s race was over as the peloton was long gone. A real shame as he is carrying form and could have been competitive in a bunch sprint.

Lingering illness hampers race for Saunders
Not to be out done by Baker, Sanders unfortunately also had to withdraw due to recurring breathing problems as a result of a lingering illness.

This left Hayden as the only Wightlink-LCM Systems rider in the race. He worked well on his own after the loss of his team mates and was shaping up well with over half the race behind him.

Hospital visit for Hayden
However, even more bad luck came as another rider managed to ride into Hayden, causing him to come crashing down hard on his shoulder. The crash warranted a trip to hospital, but he is recovering well and should be back on his bike in no time.
