Ventnor beach:

OnTheWight proud to sponsor the Isle of Wight Film Festival

The Isle of Wight Film Festival returns in less than two weeks and OnTheWight are once again proud to sponsor the Feature Film category of the competition.

The Festival, founded by Isle of Wight film-maker Bruce Webb, is extended this year, with a programme running from Tuesday 12th to Saturday 16th August.

Watch great films and meet the Directors
Once again based at The Sacred Cinema on Victoria Street, Ventnor, Bruce and his team invite Islanders and visitors to immerse themselves in films from around the world.

Not only do you get to see some amazing films (including plenty of shorts) that you’d otherwise possibly never see, but some of the directors attend the festival as well, bringing the opportunity to chat with them after the screening.

There are several categories in the competition,

Best Feature Film sponsored by OnTheWight
Best Drama Short sponsored by Whatever Pictures
Best Environmental Short sponsored by Rapanui Eco Clothing
Best Human Rights Short sponsored by Amnesty International
Best Isle of Wight Short (FREE ENTRY)

That’ll be the day
The programme kicks off with a film from 1973 that was shot on the Isle of Wight. That’ll Be The Day stars David Essex, Ringo Starr, Billy Fury and Keith Moon. If you saw it when it was first released you’ll remember it’s a story about a teenager abandoned by his father at an early age.

The programme is beautifully varied, offering something for everyone. OnTheWight will be taking you through the feature films over the next two weeks, but you can check out the programme for yourself in the meantime.
