Summers end:

Cassandra Gardiner: Seasonal Drift

As the days flow slowly to the summer’s end, a touch of freshness brushes the air. Westerlies churning the sea, indicative of change, deposit storm debris and chunking weed now mar the gold sands.

The gods bequeath turn and whilst acceptance may feign, the choice is not ours; still the soil stays warm, outdoors pleasant and gentle calmness floats in the breeze. Excessive summer days, balmy with heat, tempers and exhaustion fade, memories delight the wondrous summer inclusive to all.

Noting the hours, lightness counts down rather than up, cautiously daylight reduces.

Yet to be told, leaves on the ground, earth life withdrawing, ready and in good practise; escaping green as the land prepares for fallow. As we heed the remaining warmth, light jackets, keeping nips at bay, but soon.

Though time leans into preparation, repair or unwind in the friendly openness. Breathing in, cleansed by air, spirits fly whilst the body rejoices in hints of wildness approaching, enjoying subtle natures. Soon birds fly south, flocking, specking the sky, lifting on currents, rising, gliding like the memories we pack away.

Life ticks by.
