August 2014 Undercliff Drive :

Have your say about the ‘Jewel in the Island’s Crown’

Many people believe that Undercliff Drive, the green corridor of outstanding natural beauty between Ventnor and Niton, is the “Jewel in the Island’s Crown”.

The road was first closed in late October 2013 as Island Roads started a stablisation programme. Work was scheduled to be completed by now, but at the beginning of the year, a series of landslips occurred in the area, leaving nine properties landlocked and the future of the road uncertain.

Public meeting
As reported last week, residents affected by the landslip and subsequent road closure of Undercliff Drive are holding an open meeting this coming Wednesday.

They’re inviting anyone affected by the closure, not just residents in the immediate vicinity but also those in nearby towns and villages, as well as those from other parts of the Island who feel strongly about the situation, to attend anytime between 11am and 7pm on Wednesday 20th August to share their views and opinions.

Gathering views and concerns
Undercliff resident, Gemma Read, who has organised the open meeting is hoping to gather Islanders’ views and concerns about the ‘lack of action’ taken by the Isle of Wight council and Island Roads.

All the information gathered will be collated and included to present to Parliament as well as the council and Island Roads’ parent company.
