UKIP support an Island Vote on Fracking

This in from Rose Lynden-Bell, Chairman, UKIP Isle of Wight. Ed

The EU’s Energy policies have led to one in five Islanders, 22,540 people, living in fuel poverty.

Fracked oil and gas might help lower prices and help the public purse. There are oil and gas deposits on the Isle of Wight that could be suitable for fracking. But the debate on fracking is far from being concluded.

UKIP’s IW Branch, their Councillors and Parliamentary Candidate believe that fracking should only be permitted after all the appropriate and necessary tests have been conducted, their results made available to the public, and every residents’ concern given due attention.

Once all these reports and views have been heard, we would then call for an Island wide referendum on whether the Isle of Wight Council should support it here.
