Children cycling:

Join the cycling celebrations in Newport tomorrow

Thanks to Tanja for this reminder about tomorrow’s cycling celebration in Newport. Ed

This coming Saturday 13th September, St James Square in Newport will be heaving with bicycles for our yearly Carbon Cycle Celebration.

The event forms part of the Cycling Festival and there will be bicycles of all kinds – modern, vintage, toddler and stunt bikes – as well as stunt bike shows and musical entertainment!

The aim of the day is to celebrate anything bike and highlight the benefits of a car free town centre, where the square will be protected from car traffic all day.

Ecoisland legacy
Many people enjoy this event year after year, but few know that one of the key people who made it all possible was David Green from Eco-Island.

David Green at Parliament by Jason Swain for EcoislandA number of years ago I approached him with the idea for a Cycle Event in town. In characteristic manner, he promptly agreed to sponsor the event and helped coin the name Carbon Cycle Celebration.

David was an inspiration to many and his legacy lives on through this event. It is to be hoped that his Eco-Island Dream will live on as well and that it is soon turned into reality.
