Opri Martin solent swim

Teenage Islander’s swim across the Solent (updated)

Best of luck to 15 year old Islander Opri Martin who will very shortly be embarking on a two and a half mile swim across the Solent.

Opri, a keen long distance swimmer, has been training hard for the challenge, which is being attempted to raise funds and awareness for spinal injuries charity, Aspire.

Her mother, Tuula Martin, told OnTheWight that Opri is by far the youngest of the 12 swimmers attempting the challenge this morning.

If the tides are doing as predicted, the swimmers will set off from Southsea just about now (11.10am).

We’ll let you know how they get on. Best of luck to them all.

Update 13.50
Tuula says that Opri was the first swimmer to reach the Isle of Wight! Well done Opri. All other swimmers have arrived on the Island safely.

Update 11.50
Tuula advises the swimmers are about half way across the Solent. Hurrah!
