Scrutiny Committee consider call-in of contentious paper linked to resignations

The Isle of Wight Scrutiny Committee will be meeting on Thursday, ahead of next week’s first Executive meeting with a new line-up of members.

Councillors will be scrutinising the call-in of ‘Capital Programme Contingency Budget – Bids for Resources and Prioritisation of Key Capital Projects’ – the paper apparently at the heart of a row and rumoured attempted overthrow of the Independent administration involving Cllr Richard Priest and Cllr Jon Gilbey.

Following the sacking of Richard Priest from the Executive and Jon Gilbey deciding to leave the Group, two others, Cllrs Bob Blezzard and Charles Chapman also resigned from the group.

Executive member spotlight
Other items on the agenda for Thursday’s Scrutiny meeting include Executive member spotlight on Cllr Phil Jordan, Executive member for Fire and Rescue
Services and Public Health and Safety.

They’ll also be considering items being discussed by the Executive on 7 October
2014.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting which takes place at County Hall, Newport starting 6pm sharp. Meetings are usually completed by 8pm.
