Jazz and poetry event

Read your poetry at festival to an improvised live jazz accompaniment

Thanks to Paul for sharing details of this event. Ed

Since the parallel evolutions of beat literature and bebop, jazz and poetry have remained close friends.

Here is a rare chance for you to recite a poem (your own or a personal favourite) to an improvised live accompaniment by some of the Island’s best musicians (Gary Plumley on sax, Ken Black on drums), or to just sit and listen.

Musical wordsmith and double bass player Paul Armfield who will be hosting the evening says,

“Poetry on the page is great, recited poetry even better, but readings with music can be magical, with musicians and audience alike focusing even more intently on the words as they are brought momentarily to life.”

Takes place at Northwood House on Friday 17th October at 6.30pm. Tickets are £5 each – Book here

Berets and goatees optional.
