Southern Vectis’ Newport bus depot has been shortlisted in the highly regarded UK Bus Awards.

The Isle of Wight operator is in contention within the Top National Bus Depot category – for the second year running.

Wickham: “Fantastic recognition”
Singled out for its excellent operational standards, punctuality, engineering performance and low staff turnover, Southern Vectis also scored highly for its contribution to local and global environmental objectives.

Its work within the community – introducing dementia-friendly services, supporting the poppy appeal and backing Hampshire Constabulary’s anti drink drive campaign – has also been recognised.

Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham said,

“This is fantastic recognition from the judges of these respected awards – I’m delighted for the team at our Newport Depot.

“We are fortunate enough to have a group of experienced and highly skilled professionals, providing our customers with an excellent service and transporting them across the Island with the minimum of fuss. This is just reward for their efforts.”

UK Bus Awards scheme
The UK Bus Awards scheme was founded in 1996. It was designed to develop further the Bus Good Practice Awards – which were set up by the Association of Metropolitan Authorities in 1991.

Overall winners of the awards – which recognise and reward excellence in a whole variety of disciplines – are set to be announced at a ceremony to be held at the Park Lane Hilton in London on 18 November.
