Bids open for youth money in Sandown

This in from the council, in their own words. Ed

Organisations are being invited to bid to funding of £15,500 to provide youth activities in Sandown as part of the Isle of Wight Council’s new youth offer.

The funding, which is to cover a two and half year period until 31 March 2017, must be used to provide activities for 11 to 19 year olds (up to 25 years for those with additional needs) in the Sandown area only.

Applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 7 November, with the chosen provider announced soon after.

Lack of acceptable bids
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Executive member for children’s services, said:

“A number of exciting and modern activities are becoming available across the Island as part of the new youth offer. These include social enterprises, youth cafes, creative workshops and the development of life skills.

“Unfortunately, no acceptable plan was submitted for Sandown which means we are now accepting bids for an organisation to come in and put on a viable offer in the town.”

“Each bid received will be carefully examined and we will choose what we feel is the best one in providing positive activities for young people in Sandown.”
