Details of road closures and diversions for Sandown fireworks

Sandown Carnival Committee will be hosting their annual firework event tomorrow evening (Saturday).

Hundreds of Islanders are expected to attend the grand event which features a super lantern parade, live music, entertainment and the grand finale of the firework display, there’ll be some road closures and diversions in place.

Details released by Island Roads as follows:

Grafton Street will be closed between Station Avenue and Melville Street and Royal Street will also be closed between Beachfield Road and Melville Street from 5.15pm until approx. 6.45pm on Saturday 1 November 2014 to enable Fireworks Night processions to form up.

The processions are due to leave each road at approx. 6.30pm and will then merge together in Melville Street before proceeding along Fitzroy Street, Station Avenue, Albert Road, Victoria Road, High Street, Pier Street and Esplanade. The rear of the procession is due to arrive at the Esplanade at approx 7.30pm.

Pier Street and The Esplanade (from Pier Street to Esplanade Road) will also be closed in the interests of pedestrian safety when necessary between 5pm and 9pm to enable a fireworks display to take place (weather permitting). The display is due to take place from 8pm for about 15 to 20minutes.

If the Carnival and Fireworks celebrations are cancelled on Saturday 1 November 2014 due to bad weather, the Fireworks display will be rescheduled to take place at 8pm on Saturday 8 November 2014 (weather permitting).
