Two year jail sentence for cafe burglar

Earlier in the year OnTheWight reported the break-in and vandalism of Seapot, a fledgling business on the seafront at Wheeler’s Bay (half way between Ventnor and Bonchurch).

Sister and brother team, Kerry and James O’Reilly, bought the former public loos from the Isle of Wight council and spent the best part of a year converting the building into a seafront cafe.

Man jailed
A 23 year old man from Sandown appeared in court last week and was jailed for two years after admitting to the burglary and vandalism of Seapot Cafe between 18-19th August 2014.

Kerry explained in court last week that she’d given up her job to set up and run the cafe and couldn’t believe someone would undo all their hard work.

Support from friends
Luckily the cafe owners have a fantastic community of friends around them, who all helped repair the damage and get the cafe back on its feet within a couple of days.
