Isle of Wight JSA claimant numbers released

Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 1,603 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in October.

Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show an increase of 131 since September, which reported 1,472 JSA claimants, and a fall of 1,178 from October 2013 (2,781).

1,076 of those claiming were men, with 527 women.

That means 2.0% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 0.8% more than the rest of the South East (1.2%), and 0.1% less than the whole of the UK (2.1%).
