Sunday Politics Show - Ian Stephens

Isle of Wight’s ‘fractious’ political scene to be featured on TV

This coming Sunday (23rd November), the Isle of Wight will be starring on the Sunday Politics Show.

On BBC1 from 11am, the programme will be running a feature by Isle of Wight political correspondent Jessica Parker.

‘Fractious’ political scene
Jess has been filming on the Island this week for the feature on the ‘fractious’ political scene.

It comes in light of an attempt to overthrow the Island Independents (the group in power at County Hall) in September and the latest scandal on the MP’s expenses, as covered by OnTheWight and Private Eye.

Time for Hampshire to take over?
Also being pitched is the idea of Hampshire County Council taking over control of the Isle of Wight – given the highways are now contracted out to Island Roads and Hampshire CC are running Children’s Service.

Those appearing in footage from the Island will be Labour councillor, Geoff Lumley, deputy leader of the Isle of Wight council, Steve Stubbings, Group leader of the Isle of Wight Conservatives, Dave Stewart and landlocked resident from Undercliff Drive, Gary Smedmore.
