Coppins Bridge Brawl

Coppins Bridge brawlers sentenced

Back in the summer, a video shot from the dashboard of a passing driver on the dual-carriageway in Newport captured footage of several men taking part in a punch-up at the roadside.

The video was posted to YouTube and quickly shared across social media as viewers couldn’t believe their eyes at what was happening on film.

Man sentenced
The CP reports today that one of those involved in the brawl, a 37 year old man, has been sentenced by a Crown Court judge.

The footage was shown to Magistrates, but as the man sentenced was – the CP reports – already 22 months into a two-year suspended sentence for a drug offence, only the Crown Court could consider a suitable punishment.

Five-year feud
The court heard the fight was the culmination of a five-year feud between the two families.

The 37 year old man received a £100 fine for breach of the suspended sentence and a three month 8pm-6am curfew.

The other brawlers
Occupants of the other car had already been dealt with by magistrates.

A 42 year old man received a six-month community order and a six-month 8pm-6am curfew. A 17 year old was given a four-month referral order and fined £65 costs.
