Broken Circle Breakdown :

Tickets still available for Broken Circle Breakdown

Thanks to Linda for reminding us about these screenings this week. Ed

Ventnor Film Society still has some tickets left for both Tuesday and Wednesday’s screenings of Broken Circle Breakdown, a fantastic film, with great performances and an excellent bluegrass soundtrack.

An unlikely couple, Elise owns a tattoo parlour and has an inking for each of her past lovers, whilst banjo-playing Didier is in a bluegrass band and is enamoured of all things American.

They fall in love, she joins the band and soon they find themselves with an unplanned child, whom they call Maybelle after the Carter family country singer. But when tragedy strikes the young family, their relationship and increasingly opposed beliefs are stretched to breaking point.

The story of love and loss unfolds in flashback in an intense drama that is alternately hopeful and heart-wrenching, played out against a soundtrack of foot-tapping bluegrass music, all impressively performed by the Belgian cast.

A touching and bittersweet tour-de-force, with superb performances all round. In Flemish with English subtitles.
