Shining a light on the Hospice for Christmas

A street-lighting crew from Island Roads dropped by the hospice on Monday complete with a mechanical ‘cherry picker’ to ensure lights donated by the highways PFI company were soon festooning the giant 20ft fir, which was donated by Shide Trees and erected by Newport Parish Council.

Mike Pearson, Island Roads street lighting supervisor said,

“Providing and decorating the Christmas tree lights is something we do every year and we are delighted to do so.

“The hospice is a wonderful organisation that provides the very best care to so many people. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here so we are really pleased to be able to support the work that goes on here, particularly at this time of the year.”

Erika Campbell-Burt, director of strategy and developments at the hospice, said the tree gave much pleasure and comfort to patients and their friends and relatives.

She added:

“It is such a large tree we would really struggle to decorate it without the help of Island Roads. We are really grateful for the support Island Roads, Newport Parish Council and Shide Trees – have given us and we know their gestures will be warmly welcomed by all those who visit the hospice over the Christmas period.”
