Caeser Must Die - grab from the film:

Tickets available for final Ventnor Film Society screenings of the year

Thanks to Linda for this reminder about this week’s screenings. Ed

This week sees the final film of the season from Ventnor Film Society, the award winning Italian, Caesar Must Die.

It is quite a short film so there will be time for festive drinks in the bar after the screening and we hope to raise a glass with many of our audience after another very well-received season of films.

Winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani’s Caesar Must Die deftly melds narrative and documentary in a transcendently powerful drama-within-a-drama.

The film was made in Rome’s Rebibbia Prison, where the inmates are preparing to stage Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. After a competitive casting process, the roles are eventually allocated, and the prisoners begin exploring the text, finding in its tale of fraternity, power and betrayal parallels to their own lives and stories.

Hardened criminals, many with links to organised crime, these actors find great motivation in performing the play. As we witness the rehearsals, beautifully photographed in various nooks and crannies within the prison, we see the inmates also work through their own conflicts, both internal and between each other.

Tickets available
We still have some tickets left for both Tuesday and Wednesday, which can be booked by emailing [email protected].

We now run twice a week, so, if you are local, you may wish to take a chance and just turn up on the night.

We would like to wish all our regular viewers a very Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you at our first film of next year, which will be Two Days, One Night on 3rd and 4th February 2015.
