Visiting the Red Funnel Cowes Christmas Festival, Carol was the winner of a hamper of Isle of Wight food products provided by the Royal IW Agricultural Society’s Wight Marque Scheme.

Presenting Carol with her prize, Agricultural Society Vice-Chair, Graham Biss explained that the competition was designed to raise awareness of the Wight Marque Scheme which has been set up as a sign of origin to support and promote truly local produce from the Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight producers
As well as a Wight Marque information stand at the Cowes Christmas Festival the weekend saw Wight Marque members, Goddard’s Brewery, Real Island Food, Brownrigg’s IW Bacon Company, Isle of Wight Brewery and Island Roasted promote their Wight Marque products to visitors to the event.

Dan Burgess of Island Roasted also demonstrated the finer points of making a truly great cup of Wight Marque coffee on the Cookery Theatre stage, whilst Will Steward of WH Steward, a horticulture business in Apse Heath, also took to the stage explaining that by seeking out products like his which carry the Wight Marque logo consumers could be confident that they were supporting genuine Isle of Wight businesses.

Delighted with hamper
Collecting her prize, Carol Hope, said she was delighted to have won the hamper, which contained Wight Marque products from Hazelgrove Farm Eggs, Isle of Wight Brewery, IW Cheese Company, Oil of Wight, Rosemary Vineyard, Briddlesford Lodge Farm-shop, The Tomato Stall and Island Roasted Coffee.

She had not previously been aware of the Wight Marque logo but would be looking out for it now in shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants as not only Island producers but all food businesses across the supply chain are eligible to apply to use the logo, to show that they grow, rear, sell or serve genuine Isle of Wight produce.
