MP’s split from partner was due to an affair, IWCA letter exposes

Isle of Wight Conservative MP Andrew Turner‘s split from his long-term fiance Carole Dennett was due to an affair between her and one of Andrew’s inner circle and prominent Island Conservatives, Nicholas Finney, a letter to the Isle of Wight Conservative Association (IWCA) executive has exposed.

The letter, leaked to OnTheWight (in full below), has made public the details that were previously rumoured.

Confirmed
Nick Finney confirmed to OnTheWight that the allegation of an affair in letter were correct and that he and Carole were now living together, away from Andrew Turner’s Newport house.

Nicholas Finney is the MP’s Transport advisor and central to the Better Ferry Campaign – something Andrew and Carole had tied themselves to very closely.

He’s also a key figure in the Isle of Wight Conservative Association as both Chairman of the Island’s Patrons’ club (a group to raise funds for elections) and the Bembridge Branch.

OnTheWight wouldn’t normally cover this kind of personal issue, but given these close connections with Andrew, we believe there is a public interest justification for it.

Future uncertain
It’s unclear how things lie now. The letter states that Nick Finney has been asked to step down from his Chairman role in Bembridge by the two Vice chairmen and goes on to call for his resignation from the Patrons’ Club, as it “would be unlikely to secure confidence in fundraising for the MP’s campaign”.

From Mr Finney’s side, his previously-close relationship with the MP is “still being worked through,” he told OnTheWight. He Tweeted on New Year’s Eve, “Believe that I want Andrew Turner to win the IOW seat at the next general election.”
