Organisers said they were delighted at the number of people signing up to what is the Hospice’s largest annual fundraising event, and they have urged walkers to make a belated New Year’s resolution to join those who have already pledged to support this year’s landmark event.

Registration for this year’s Walk the Wight on Sunday 10th May opened last Friday (9th January) and immediately entries began pouring in. Over the weekend alone, an incredible 300-plus application were received.

said Jax Jones, Walk the Wight Support, said,

“The importance of Walk the Wight to our fundraising programme cannot be overstated so to get such a swift and impressive response in such a short time is really encouraging.

“We are all working hard to ensure that the 25th anniversary of this marvellous event is a particularly memorable one so we are delighted that the public is already showing its support.”

Walk the Wight is the largest charity event on the Island and comprises walks for those of all ages and abilities. There are:

  • The Full Walk: Bembridge to the Needles at Alum Bay (approx. 26.5 miles) / 8 to 12 hours.
  • The 1st Half: Bembridge to Carisbrooke (approx. 12.5 miles) / 4 to 6 hours.
  • The 2nd Half: Carisbrooke to the Needles at Alum Bay (approx. 14 miles) / 5 to 8 hours.
  • The Flat Walk: Sandown Bay Academy to Thompsons Trees (Shide) (approx. 8 miles / 2-3 hours)
