Blue lights at the Spinnaker Tower for Girlguides

This in from Suzanne on behalf of IW Girlguiding. Ed

At present Spinnaker Tower can be illuminated by floodlights from dusk through the evening to midnight in the chosen colours of charities or individuals who wish to commemorate something/someone special or promote their cause. Those selecting to do this give a donation to the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

Deborah Meadows said,

“I picked up this idea when mentioned on Radio Solent and thought it sounded something we deserved in GIW.”

Deborah MeadowsDeborah was the Island Commissioner for Girlguiding IW prior to 2009 but after the following Island Commissioner Janet Lovell left the post after her term of office and none of the present Guiders or leaders were willing to take on the position Deborah decided to undertake the Island’s leadership until a new Island Commissioner could be found.

Deborah added,

“We may be struggling with leadership but our membership is thriving and the Guiding we provide at unit level is superb. The illumination is a small opportunity to celebrate this.”

Deborah will relinquish the Island Commissioner post shortly and at the moment a number of leaders will carry out the leadership duties but if there is anyone reading this willing to be considered as a Guider, Commissioner or indeed Island Commissioner please contact: Girlguiding IW Secretary on [email protected]
