Andrew Turner - looking to his side

New plan to deselect Andrew Turner – with or without his approval

Executive members of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association (IWCA) will be asked tomorrow night to undo the decision they made last year nominating Andrew Turner as their prospective parliamentary candidate.

Alan Wells, has written to Executive members advising of an amendment to the motion of No Confidence in Isle of Wight MP being voted upon tomorrow (Friday) evening.

OnTheWight understand from those close to the Association that the vote is expected to be very close.

Revised motion
The motion has been revised by Edward Giles to, “take into account the public pronouncements made by Mr Turner should the motion of no confidence be passed”.

Following Andrew Turner’s election campaign launch last week, he declared robustly that even if the IWCA Executive gave a vote of No Confidence in him, he’d ignore that and carry on as candidate.

Asked to rescind nomination
The first two paragraphs of the original Motion of No Confidence remain the same, but the third paragraph has been removed and replaced with,

Further, the Executive Council hereby agrees that the decision to adopt Mr Turner as the prospective candidate made at the meeting held on 10th January 2014 be rescinded with this decision to apply with immediate effect at 12.00 noon on Monday 26th January 2015 should he not have voluntarily resigned as candidate by that time. In such circumstances Mr Turner would cease to be the prospective candidate with immediate effect pending next steps.

The motion goes on to read,

Should the circumstances in the preceding paragraph apply, the Executive Council calls upon Mr Turner, in the interests of the Party, not to require a ballot under rule 15.2.6.3 but instead gracefully to accept the outcome of the decision to rescind his selection as the prospective candidate.

It finishes by saying that with less than three months until the General Election, the Chairman must liaise with CCHQ to, “expedite a process that will enable the selection of a new parliamentary candidate to take place at the earliest opportunity”.
